The combination of colour, texture, and light determines how the finished piece will look. Selecting glass is an exciting part of the craft however it can also be intimidating, Here are some guidelines to help make the process a little more enjoyable;

1. View the glass to be selected in lighting conditions similar to where your project will be displayed. For projects that won’t be projecting light, select glass that is lighter in colour and attractive in reflective light.
2. Try to keep the number of colours you’ll be working with to a minimum. The larger the project is in size, the more colour you can use. In small projects, focus on using just 2 or 3 colours. If a wider range of glass is desired, try using textured glass or varying shades of one of the dominant colours you have chosen. View your colour choices side by side to see how they look together. Bold colours may need to be softened by surrounding them with lighter colours and clear textured glasses.
3. Opalescent glass is often used for the main body of a lamp shade to disguise the electrical components and to soften the effect of the light.
4. If working to a pattern, it’s always a good idea to order a little more glass than you need, in case of breakage.
